Recently, we discovered that a now-former employee had been fraudulently diverting funds from our business over the course of several months, perhaps longer. Upon uncovering this breach of trust, we acted immediately—terminating the individual's employment and reporting the matter to local authorities, with whom we are fully cooperating.
This has been a deeply painful and sobering experience for our team and our family, especially as we work to recover from the impact this has had on our operations, our beloved employees and customers, and on our beautiful community trust.
This was an internal financial issue, affecting only catering customers to our current best knowledge. However, customers' information may have been misused. In full transparency, this former employee created their own point-of-sale accounts and misdirected many, but not all, of our catering customers to pay via the point-of-sale accounts he created.
At this time, we are reaching out directly to those who we know may have been affected. If you believe you may be affected, notice any unauthorized charges, or have a pending catering order, please contact Verde Cocina owner, Anne Sorenson Garnica, at anna@verdecocinamarket.com or (503) 750-2722 to confirm your status. If you confirm that you have been affected by this fraud, please also report it to the Portland Police Department non-emergency desk (reference report #25-259330) or to the Multnomah County District Attorney's office (case #051-1104083).
Our commitment to transparency and integrity remains unwavering. We are taking swift steps to strengthen our financial systems and internal controls, and we are immensely grateful for your continued support as we navigate this difficult time.
We remain here to serve you—thank you for standing with us.
With Gratitude,
Anne and Noé Garnica
